The topic of Health Care reform is a major agenda item in both the US and Canada today and poses many challenges and opportunities.  Join us in two days of stories and dialogue about practical advances in health care already in existence that address the complex challenges of delivering innovative, collaborative, solutions that drive safe, patient centered, cost effective care while also restoring the joy of practice for all caregivers. These stories will represent both large scale and grass roots health care transformations including innovations that are just getting started to those well under way.

Some of the stories already planned include: Redesigning our Health Care Delivery Model Using Participative Organization Design, ED and Medical Home, Healthiest Community in the Nation Project, Integrated Care Model, Safest Hospital in Canada, Advancing Oncology Nursing, Enabling Education and Care through Technology, and Health Care Reform. We would like to hear your story as well!

About the Innovation Expedition (IE)

Innovation Expedition LogoThe Innovation Expedition is an intimate gathering of a diverse group of stakeholders to explore successful innovations from across the healthcare systems in Canada and the United States. It is a non-profit alliance of a number of independent educators, thought leaders, and change facilitators who have created a now ongoing series of annual gatherings that probe creative paths toward health care’s future.  We are committed to creating an engaging and inspiring learning environment where those who are leading health care innovation and reform can collaborate and build new ideas that will create the bridge toward a "second curve" in health care delivery.

It is our belief that the seeds of health care’s future are already planted and being nurtured in health care organizations throughout the United States and Canada.  We are seeking leaders who are creating and experimenting with new models of care and discovering leading edge practices that are paving the way toward the next generation of health care.

Potential Contributors and Collaborators

If you would like to bring your expertise and experiences to our 2-day event in February 2010 please let us know. Each participant in the expedition will be asked to be both a contributor and collaborator. You will hear stories, informally share your story in a large of smaller group setting, and work with other participants to energize and inform our work in health care reform and renewal towards the "Second Curve". Attendance is by invitation only and we are holding space for a diverse mix of health care stakeholders (Physician and Nursing Leaders, Regulatory Agencies, Administrators, Provincial, State and Federal entities, Insurers, Pharmaceuticals and Foundations).

If you would like to bring your expertise and experiences to our 2-day event in February 2010 please let us know.

Innovation Expedition - Learning Community Telecalls

At the 2009 Innovation Expedition (IE) participants asked how they could stay connected to further develop their thinking and learning about Appreciative Inquiry and Second Curve Health Care. In response to this request the IE 3 Steering Committee decided to hold the first 90-minute “Learning Community Telecall” on Monday, June 22, 2009. At this telecall it was decided that these telecalls would be held once every quarter and notes would be posted on this website.

Creating the Strengths-Based Organization

After the Innovation Expedition, on February 9th  you may also want to join Bernard Mohr and Bob Laliberte for a workshop titled “Creating the Strength-Based Organization”. This one-day workshop will describe how you can utilize an appreciative organization design process to support your efforts toward 2nd Curve Health Care.  There is a minimal fee of  $299 for this workshop.
